# Calorie Ledger — Support
## About this app
Calorie Ledger records the calories you eat as "income" and the calories you burn as "expense", laying them out like a household account book so you can see your daily balance and your progress toward a goal. All records are stored only on your device and in your own iCloud. Nothing is sent anywhere else.
## Requirements
- iOS 17.0 or later
- iPhone (portrait orientation)
- A connection to the Health app is needed to read calories burned
## Frequently asked questions
### I can't connect to Apple Health
Open Settings › Apps › Health › Data Access & Devices › Calorie Ledger and check the read and write permissions. The App asks for permission the first time you launch it; if you chose "Don't Allow" then, you can still change it here.
### Calories burned stay at zero
Resting energy (basal metabolism) is recorded mainly while you are wearing an Apple Watch. If you don't use one, this data may never reach Apple Health.
When that happens, Calorie Ledger estimates your energy expenditure from the profile in Settings (age, sex, height, activity level) together with your most recent weight. **The estimate cannot be made if your profile is empty**, so please fill it in from the Settings tab.
Note also that a day's calories burned is a running total up to that moment. It is small in the morning and grows toward the end of the day.
### What happens on a day I forgot to log meals?
A day with no intake recorded is left out of the balance totals. This prevents a day from looking better than it was, with only the burn side counted.
Forgetting a day does not distort your running totals or your goal progress.
### I made a mistake in a record
On the Meals tab, tap a date row to open that day's records.
- **Edit** — tap a record to change its meal type, calories, or photo
- **Delete** — swipe a record to the left, or use "Delete" on the edit screen
Edits and deletions are also reflected in the data written to Apple Health.
### Where do I record my weight?
On the Meals tab, tap the "Weight" column to record your weight for that day. Weight recorded in Apple Health is also read in automatically.
### Can I correct the calories burned by hand?
Yes. On the Meals tab, tap the "Burn" column to override that day's figure. Use this when the Apple Health data is wrong, or on a day it wasn't measured.
### The "Met" mark changes during the day
The mark on today's row reflects your progress at that moment. It disappears when you log a meal and may come back as you move and burn more. The result at the end of the day is what stands as that day's outcome.
Marks on past days do not move, even if you change your goal later.
### Is my data backed up?
If you are signed in with the same Apple Account, your records sync to iCloud. When you change devices, sign in with the same Apple Account on the new one and install Calorie Ledger — your records will carry over.
### I want to delete my data
- Individual records can be deleted in the App at any time
- Deleting the App removes the data held on the device
- Data synced to iCloud can be managed or deleted from Settings › (your name) › iCloud
- Data written to Apple Health remains after the App is deleted. If you no longer want it, delete it from the Health app
### Can it work out calories from a photo automatically?
Not in the current version. Photos are there to keep as a record, and calories need to be entered by hand. Automatic estimation from photos is under consideration for a future release.
### Are there ads?
No. There are no ads, and no analytics either.
