# Calorie Ledger — Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Calorie Ledger (the "App") handles your information.

## 1. Our position

Everything you enter or record is stored only on your device and in your own iCloud (private database). The developer cannot see it.

The single exception is the AI calorie estimation feature, which runs only when you choose to use it. At that moment, only what is needed for the estimate (the meal photo or the text you typed) is transmitted. It is used solely for the estimate and stored nowhere. See "3. AI calorie estimation" for details.

## 2. Information the App handles

### 2-1. Information you enter

- Meal records (meal type, name, calories, date and time)
- Meal photos
- Body weight records
- Profile (age, sex, height, activity level)
- Goal settings (target weight, target period, and similar)

**Purpose:** to calculate and display your calorie balance, estimate energy expenditure, and show progress toward your goal.

### 2-2. Information read from Apple Health (HealthKit)

- Active energy (calories burned through activity)
- Resting energy (calories burned through basal metabolism)
- Body weight

**Purpose:** to obtain your daily energy expenditure and calculate your calorie balance. You can change or revoke read access at any time from the Health app on your device.

### 2-3. Information written to Apple Health (HealthKit)

- Dietary energy (the calories of the meals you record)
- Body weight

**Purpose:** so that other apps can use this data. The App writes only when you have granted permission.

### 2-4. Camera and photos

The camera is used to photograph your meals. You can also choose an existing photo from your photo library. Photos are stored as records on your device and in your own iCloud. Only when you tap "Estimate from this photo" is that photo transmitted for estimation (see the next section).

## 3. AI calorie estimation

This feature uses AI to estimate calories and reference macros (protein, fat, carbohydrates) from a meal photo or the text in the name field. It runs only when you tap an estimate button.

**What is transmitted:** the photo being estimated (downscaled) or the text you typed. No other records, profile data, or Health data are transmitted.

**Where it goes:** through a relay server operated by the developer (Cloudflare) to the AI provider's API (Anthropic Claude) for processing.

**Nothing is stored:** photos and text are used only to produce the estimate and are stored neither on the relay server nor by the AI provider. The developer cannot view them. Under Anthropic's API policy, transmitted content is not used to train AI models.

**Usage counting:** to track the free allowance (10 estimations) and usage, the App uses an anonymous identifier it generates and Apple's DeviceCheck mechanism. Neither contains personal information such as your name or contact details, and neither is linked to the content of your records.

## 4. Handling of Health data

In accordance with Apple's guidelines, data obtained from Apple Health (HealthKit) is subject to the following:

- It is never used for advertising, marketing, or any similar purpose.
- It is never provided or sold to any third party, including the developer.
- It is not used for any purpose other than providing the App's features to you.
- It is not stored in any cloud service other than your own iCloud.

## 5. Disclosure to third parties

The App does not provide or sell your information to third parties. (Transmission for AI calorie estimation, described in section 3, is processing on your behalf — not provision or sale.)

## 6. Advertising and analytics

The App does not use any external service for advertising, analytics, or behavioral tracking.

## 7. Storage and deletion

- Data is stored on your device and in your own iCloud.
- You can edit or delete individual records at any time within the App.
- Deleting the App from your device deletes the data held on that device. Data synced to iCloud can be managed or deleted from Settings › (your name) › iCloud.
- Data written to Apple Health remains after the App is deleted. If you no longer want it, please delete it from the Health app.

## 8. Children's privacy

The App is not intended for use by children under 13.

## 9. Subscription (Premium)

Purchases, billing, and cancellation of Premium are handled by Apple. The developer never receives your payment details such as card numbers.

## 10. Changes to this policy

This policy may change. Any significant change will be announced on this page.
